Adventures of a Northern Author: July

Summer in the north is gorgeous but exhausting.

And for those who aren’t familiar, I live in the actual north—right on the 60th parallel in a small mountain town that sleeps beneath a blanket of snow for nine months of the year and then is a busy, bustling little tourist hot spot the other three.

The call it the land of the Midnight Sun because June and July the sun stays up almost all day. This is not ideal for someone like me who claims to have been a vampire in a past life.

Not only does the town perk up in the summer but so does my busy-bee althete of a husband.

Last year, he trained for three races: a bike relay, a marathon, and a running relay which I ran with him and was the equivalent of a half marathon.

This summer I said nope. I just wanted to putter around this year and no big trips. Just camping with our 9-year-old, hikes, yard projects, and beach days.

However, I was talked into doing the bike relay where my eight-person team rode 230km from my town to a town in Alaska with the same name. It was a great time and our team placed 25th out of 87 which is amazing for a recreational team of sometimes cyclists.

My publishing schedule is put on hold in the summer as well. There are so many things to do and only 60 frost free days to do it in, so during the warmer months I usually spend my creative time thinking about my books, doodling plot lines, or brainstorming marketing ideas for the fall. These are things I can do in short bursts of time and not get derailed by interruptions.

News & Updates

In author news, I entered a novella into a romcom contest! My tarot reader and hockey player novel will come out winter 2025 but the prequel novella is in the judges hands. I am terrified and trying to be hopeful.

I pulled OF DUST AND FLAME from KU but then put it back in. It fits there and for now needs to stay in. The Canadian ISBN site was down for a while but it’s up and running again which means I can get the paperback up for sale soon!

I’m working on the plots of the STRYKER SISTER trilogy that I will hopefully have news about soon but if you haven’t already read the STRYKER BROTHERS, they are free to read on KOBO PLUS.
